Getting to Villa Cabomar


Arriving by Air


From Juan Santamaria International Airport, San Jose (SJO)

Juan Santamaria Airport in San Jose (actually Alajuela) is the principal airport in Costa Rica. Villa Cabomar is about a two hour drive (100 kilometers) north of the airport. Most of the trip is on the Inter-American Highway, the principal highway through Central America. This highway carries significant truck traffic and is narrow and hilly in some areas resulting in very slow traffic. The turn off to Puntarenas is well marked.

Most major car rental companies have offices in or nearby the airport. Taxis are also available. The one way taxi fare to Puntarenas is approximately $80. You can pre-pay your fare at a counter just outside the customs area in the airport or we will be happy to arrange transportation with a reliable taxi or van service.



Daniel Oduber International Airport, Liberia (LIR)


Villa Cabomar is located about 2.5 hours drive south of the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia on the Inter-American Highway. Several major US airlines and charter services have flights to the airport. Major car rental companies have offices at the airport. Taxis are also available. The one way fare to Puntarenas is approximately $110. We are also happy to arrange ground transportation with a reliable taxi or van service.

Ground Transfer to Villa Cabomar
We will be happy to arrange ground transportation between the airport and Villa Cabomar in a safe, comfortable van or private vehicle.  The driver will meet you outside the airport terminal and drive you directly to Villa Cabomar.  The cost is approximately $100 for up to 4 people.  Please let us know if you would like to use this service when you confirm your reservation for Villa Cabomar.
Arriving by Bus
Shuttle Service
Interbus provides shuttle service between San Jose hotels and destinations throughout Costa Rica. The drop off point for Intercity shuttles in Puntarenas is the Hotel Tioga located a block and a half from Villa Cabomar.  Interbus offers several departures daily.  More information and reservations are available on their website http://www.interbusonline.com/default.asp?dTipoServicio=1&main=2  Fare to Puntarenas is approximately $29 one way.
Public Bus Service
Public buses serve nearly all communities in Costa Rica with frequent service.  Direct buses to Puntarenas depart San Jose approximately every 40 minutes at a fare of less than $5 one way.  These buses can be crowded on weekends and holidays when students in San Jose return home to Puntarenas and residents of San Jose travel to visit the beaches of Puntarenas.  The bus terminal in Puntarenas is located near the cruise ship pier about 1 kilometer from Villa Cabomar.  More information is available from the Empresarios Unidos company. Arriving by Cruise Ship


Many cruise ship lines visit Puntarenas and offer an array of shore excursions or a relaxing day at the beach.
Puntarenas is a popular port of call
Puntarenas is a port of call for many cruise ship lines.  Many passengers take advantage of easy access to many of Costa Rican attractions from Puntarenas.  Other passengers spend the day on the wide, volcanic sand beach in Puntarenas lined by restaurants and bars featuring Costa Rican specialities, ice cold Costa Rican beer, and refreshing tropical fruit drinks.
